The XC40 is Volvo’s smallest SUV and one of the Swedish automaker’s most impressive efforts. Stylish and nimble, the XC40 is offered with front- or all-wheel drive and a choice of two turbocharged engines a 187-horsepower, turbo four-cylinder or a 248-hp, turbo four-cylinder. Both engines work with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Competitors include the BMW X1, Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class. What’s New on the 2020 Volvo XC40? Fabric upholstery is now standard instead of leather, and the base Momentum trim level gains power child locks, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror and heated windshield wipers. What Features in the 2020 Volvo XC40 Are Most Important? Standard active safety features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking and lane keep assist. Standard convenience features include a 9-inch touchscreen multimedia system, a power liftgate, and power front seats with a driver’s-side memory feature. Should I Buy the 2020 Volvo XC40? The XC40 is an impressive entry in the subcompact luxury SUV class. The T5’s engine is strong, and the SUV handles well. The interior is quiet and offers good storage space. However, rear visibility is limited and the rear-seat cushion is low and not that long. We also wish the multimedia system had more physical controls. Very comfortable and easy getting around town after trading my big xxx Mercedes. Display and interaction very easily followed. First Volvo was 1969 that lasted 20 years. Glad to be back in a Volvo. Show full review One of my favorites July 12, 2022 By Richard C from Plano, TX Owns this car A great car. It checked most of the boxes that I had when looking for cars at the time. I ponied up for the Polestar software upgrade and wow did that make a difference. A few reviews had said that the car was underpowered. Not any more. There are some great details and some strange ones too, but overall it's one of my favorite vehicles. Like any car these days, there are a few niggling things that Vovo can't seem to fix. The hood doesn't seem to fit correctly no matter what Vovo did. It "bangs" when you lean against it cleaning the windscreen, etc and when the car is jolted potholes, etc. No amount of work seems to properly address the issue. It's years and I've been through a set 2 batteries main and stop/start. It is now giving me the feeling that the main battery is failing again. The stop/start has not worked consistently since I got the car. Vovo tells me I don't drive it enough to keep the battery charged. Well, I do 5 to 6K a year and if that's not enough they should say so up front. Seems to me that there is something up or down with the charging system. Again, I'm impressed. Show full review Super Cool BUT the build quality is poor March 21, 2022 By ST from Boston MA Owns this car My wife owns the Inscription. I drive a 2020 Ram 1500 Limited but with high gas prices been having fun with our X40. I've owned a 2006 XC90 V8 back in the day great SUV extremely well built and SOLID. Also, we've owned a couple of Cross Country wagons in the early 2000s. There is CLEARLY a quality decline with the newer Volvo's. Maybe it's b/c they're owned by China Geely or maybe because people are interested in technology only and quality isnt a priority with most Volvo buyers anymore. The XC40 is a fun car with touch screens, cool LED interior, and exterior lights. It's feature-rich but the build quality is POOR. Most people wouldnt notice the short cuts and cheap material and workmanship but a car person quickly notices Volvo/Geely are not building old school high-quality Volvo's that are built to last anymore. You will see very few of these newer XC40, XC90's with high miles on the road in 15 plus years. I love cruising around in our XC40 Inscription. It's a super cool design and looks like a piece of art. But it only has 15,000 miles and I guaruntee you it wont hit the 200,000 miles like our 2006 XC90.
